spatial@gov® Conference & Exhibition
spatial@gov® Conference and Exhibition 2011 was once again held at the National Convention Centre Canberra from 15 – 17 November.
spatial@gov® 2011 built on the success and momentum of last year. Over 500 delegates gathered at the industry’s key event, to examine how spatial information, services and capabilities can be applied across government and the benefits they bring. The tagline adopted for 2011 was Positioning Australia, focusing on how Australia is doing against other countries in spatial development. The focus for 2011 lead to the well received introduction of an International theme to the conference for 2011.
The 2011 Conference program covered six topical themes, including spatial@defence, Emergency Response, Access to Public Sector Information, International, Virtual Australia and Water Security.
The 3-day event consisted of a technical Exhibition and Open Day, Showfloor Theatre Program, Conference Program with over 80 local and international speakers, networking events and Conference Dinner featuring the Asia-Pacific Spatial Excellence Awards (APSEA).
Keynote speakers included:
- Drew Clarke, Secretary of the Department of Resources, Energy and Tourism
- Senator the Hon. Kate Lundy, Senator for the ACT
- Colin McDonald, Chief Executive of Land Information New Zealand
- Prof. John McMillan, Australian Information Commissioner
and representatives from:
- The Attorney-General’s Department
- The Murray-Darling Basin Authority
- The Department of Regional Australia, Regional Development and Local Government

spatial@gov® Exhibition Open Day
15 November 2011
spatial@gov® Exhibition Open Day on Tuesday 15 November at the National Convention Centre in Canberra, gave you the opportunity to meet with the spatial industry to talk about how spatial information, services and capabilities can be applied to across government. The application of spatial (or location-based) information can enhance governments’ ability to deliver the appropriate services to where they are needed; as well as supporting policy development, delivering programs and streamlining business practices.
Visitors had the opportunity to claim their complimentary ticket for the spatial@gov® Open Day and hear from our exhibitors about the latest spatial technologies and how they can benefit government operations.
In order to further expose the capabilities of the spatial community to a wider audience the Organising Committee was providing an additional day for the technical exhibition on Tuesday 15 November.
The Open Day provided an excellent opportunity to view the technical exhibition and listen to a program of presentations by the Event Sponsors for no entry fee.
